CU Plein Air Workshop Feb. 2011

Our base will be the four-star Sol Rio de Luna y Mares (several units max 3 storeys) all- inclusive mid-size resort (several 3 storey units, 464 rms) on the spectacular Playa Esmeralda, 60 min. (AC transfer bus, included) from Holguin's Frank Pais international airport (HOG)......4.5 hrs non-stop from Halifax ! I painted here for 2 weeks in Dec. and Feb.2009 and from my own positive experience at the resort, I am confident it is the ideal location: clean guest rooms; great service; excellent food selection; warm ocean; clean beach; informal setting; friendly English-speaking staff; international guests; varied evening entertainment; surrounding rural landscapes; mountains; fishing ports; quality landscaping; bank on premises (Cdn bank CCs accepted, but not US bank CCs). Non-painters, co-travellers are welcome. Passport required.

Workshop outline: We'll be painting ca. 4 hrs each morning ( until ca.13:30hrs ) at inspiring locations all within 30 min. taxi ( included ) from the resort. Focus will be on individual attention, daily painting demo; and critiques. Taxi back ( included ) to our base for a buffet lunch ( closes @ 14:30hrs) or the optional smaller restaurants on the beach or by the Luna section, open all afternoon. The balance of the day ( gets dark around 17:30hrs ) you could paint on your own, swim, relax on the beach, etc. After supper, we'd meet for informal review of the day's paintings before the nightly entertainment ( optional, gratis ) in the Mares pool or covered, open-air theatre: classical ballet; aquatics; Cuban music; dance; fashion show, etc.
